Short Film (Amber)

Image
Amber (2021) | Thriller Short Film (Award-Winning) The plot is essential. A barber at a highway barbershop is caught in a deadly situation when he realizes that his first customer of the day isn’t who he seems. Every frame has a moment. Totally loved it. Joaquim is perfect. Flawless direction. Handheld moments give u that active feeling of character supported by smooth editing. Loved the tension-building scene. Overall an enjoyable experience. The camera angles made you feel as if you were almost within the scenes. There's a part when he’s drowning. Which literally gives an angle of him underwater which was so well done. Overall there were so many little deals. Yet sound played a very big part. The little tension built because of these was PHENOMENAL. For this being one of the first thriller shorts I watched, the bar is set very high. So much was captured and portrayed. Honestly while watching I was literally getting anxiety it felt so real. You could also almost feel their emoti...

Short Film (Upstairs)

Image
Upstairs - Thriller Short Film The acting was honestly not really that good. So the like plot was that this girl was going on an interview. And her upstairs neighbors were very loud. Yet the interviewer would heave and she would hear noises. Then he would get up and she would hear more. She then asks to go to the bathroom and she notices the same building behind her and also behind him and she sees blood dripping from the ceiling. Then she comes back to the computer and sees he has a bloody shirt on. Which then makes her freak out and call the police. Which, I honestly feel she could have acted better. I feel like the plot was good and the angles and camera quality and plot were very good. But I felt she wasn't in enough distress. Like I somewhat felt a little anxious towards the end. Yet this really showed me that acting really plays a big part. like it was a good short but I felt that acting could have taken it from a 6 to an 8 because everything else was so good. But the main ...

Short Film (Simple Robbery)

Image
AWARD-WINNING Thriller Short Film - A Simple Robbery (2020) Becky and Stacey are two friends who enjoy taking money from rich men. But tragedy strikes when a robbery didn't go as planned. Was hooked right from the opening credits! The American narration and comic undertone were clever, giving this another layer and made me feel ever so slightly at ease in the suspense moments! Professional acting and interesting characters, which are so hard to develop in such a short space of time. I think the concept was super solid and well-executed. One thing of note is that this film would have been a lot stronger without the voiceover. Make the audience think about what is happening, don't feed them things. The voiceover made it a little childish and made this feel like a student film. Other than that, this was great. !For a short film, this one had a very unique style so many moments the suspense was unbearable and then something totally unexpected happens. Then towards the end, she br...

Short Film (ALONE TIME)

Image
ALONE TIME (Short Film - Thriller) The plot is  A young woman, stressed by her busy and continually crowded New York City existence spontaneously retreats to a solitary lake deep in the Adirondacks.. One thing I love about this short film is how the woman wanted to spend time alone herself during her mini camping trip. But in fact, she was never alone... This is a brilliant plot with such an unexpected twist and the cinematics are absolutely amazing! This is a beautiful metaphor about how isolating and lonely it can feel to be human. In the opening scene, Ann is alone on a balcony, surrounded by the lights and noise of the city, and a room filled with people She's on the outside looking in and not an active participant. Even when she is physically near other people, their faces are shot out of focus from the neck down. When she trades her monotonous, grey life to escape to nature, everything is lush, green, and peaceful. The stark contrast between the city and the woods is tangible...

Research: How to make a short film

Image
The video walks you through the process of making a short film. The moral of the story is to be inventive. Make only what you think you'll be able to pull off. This is critical since we will not have the funds or expertise to create some of the things that we would like to include. As a result, we'll have to limit ourselves to writing what we can. We pique the audience's interest by creating a setup and payoff. It is critical to set up and pay for things, whether they are relationships or things. Do something unexpected for your viewers. This will aid in the production of a more surprising picture. Whatever comes to mind first in our thoughts may also come to mind first in the minds of the audience, so we must do something else. We may not have a lot of access to Geer, but that will not stop us. We'll have to make everything in the direction of what we can film. Make a detailed storyboard and filming schedule, but we may not need to keep to it. If things don't go a...

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
Part 1: The video's key lesson is what goes into crafting a decent movie. For the audience to understand the story, editing and filming are essential. The video discusses how the film was made and how it was intended to depict what was going on. In general, editing is crucial in films. The images used provide a clean impression for photographs. The shots and reversal help us to get a sense of the movie. Long shots provide the audience a better view of the movie. More time was provided to the audience to study the images. Each image has its own narrative. - What can we do in our film to better reflect situations and emotions? This film takes the audience on a journey through time in an easy-to-understand manner. Audio can also be employed to add to the video's appeal. A bunch of monkeys is trying to solve an issue. This piques the interest of the audience. The film's speed picks up at the finish, as more information is revealed. The tension in the video rises as a result of ...

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

Image
We began by seeing the short film 9. This picture lasted only around ten minutes and featured no dialogue. My initial reaction to this short video was that it needed to have some dialogue. This would vastly improve the quality of this little film. It would not only improve it, but it would also make it easier to comprehend. Throughout this short clip, I became disoriented on several occasions. I had no idea what was going on or where I was. Without any speech to listen to, it was difficult to follow. You had no choice but to pay attention to the body language of these tiny characters. Perhaps the characters' small noises for each emotion. When they're little rag dolls, this isn't easy. It would be easier to comprehend if it featured this dialogue, but they would also be able to add a lot more. In movies, dialogue is really important. They can appear bland and unfinished without it, as though little effort was put into them. It's similar to pasta sauce in that it's b...

Deciding Our Short Films Genre

Image
Looking over all our research we see a staggering difference in which way our pitch can go to. On one hand, we have the thriller and genre aspects that both put you in our main characters' headspace. You'd see how the character went on choosing the decisions she must now face. Or how she dealt with her struggles. As well as the toll it had on her mental health. Horror could add to it by making it a bit more intense. Maybe make her demons a bit more physical. Where she can almost see them. Make it so that she has to deal with them so often that she could really see them. Where they so mentally and emotionally drain her that the pain is physical. This is a good way to exemplify such a horrific reality. Our film will have a basic genre but its sub-genre will definitely contain some horror. We ended up deciding on a thriller again. We want to push our limits on our favorite genre. Our film will have one theme, but it will just have influences as well. Drama and horror elements play...

Genre Blog: Thriller

Image
Thriller Common lighting in this genre is backlighting, under lighting, and lowkey lighting. This helps to create a dark and mysterious atmosphere and helps to conceal the character's identity, which adds to that suspense.  Lighting is usually dim and grim. Overall adding this aspect of uncertainty. This bold yet sophisticated font pulls the audience in. Some common camera angles are close-ups shots, which exemplify the emotions of the characters or frames an object, to be at attention. Point of view shots allow the viewers to feel emotionally engaged because they feel as though they are the character.  Tracking is a common camera movement that follows the character's action but at the same doesn't spoil the movie.  For this genre costumes usually worn by the antagonist are darker. Weapons are commonly used as props to help convey risk and danger.  The settings are normally in an intense location usually secluded.  A common form of editing in this ...

Common Lighting - Uplighting, Silhouettes, Prominent Shadows Uplighting  creates weird shadows  around the eyes and distorts  faces, light from below looks  unnatural.  So,  it creates an  immediate alarm.  Silhouettes add a bit more to this  distortion because it plays upon  the human fear of the unknown. Shadows obscure or conceal subjects  in your image which creates  mystery, tension, and suspense,  because though you can see some  of what’s on-screen, you can’t see  all of it. They produce a complete  distortion of the real world.  The common theme among all  different lighting methods is that  they all obscure or distort reality  in some way. Camera Angles- Hand-held shots are used very often in horror films to add a sense of reality, it adds to the horror of the scene as you feel like you are there. Low angles  shots are powerful in the way, they can emphasize just ...

Genres My Partner and I Will Explore

Image
My partner and I thought about many different themes and genres that we wanted to incorporate into our short film. We believe that different effects from various other themes can still play a part in our production. We had the idea of continuing our love for the thriller genre into our next project. But we also felt as though maybe this genre was getting repetitive. Our ideas in our past projects were different, but maybe we needed to get a different perspective on our overall themes and tones. We thought maybe it's time for us to try a different genre and see how well we can produce it. Horror closely relates to the thriller genre in all the ways we love. This is why we would be interested in researching this genre. As well as the thriller genre. We both love horror movies. Their interchangeable aspects can fit perfectly to make our favorite films. Horror movies have factors that are similar to the thriller genre. The lighting usually stays consistently ominous in horror. While in...
