My Editing Blog

While editing my commercial I learned and had to work through many things on my own. Since our last filming project was a group one, I had my friend who was better at editing than I was, take the lead. But now that we're doing an individual project I am much more knowledgeable about editing and editing software such as Clipchamps. I cut all my videos from filming on my iPhone editing tools which turned out to be a lot easier. When loading the media into Climpchaps I made sure I organized all the videos, background music, and the narration on my google drive to keep everything from becoming unorganized and problematic. Syncing up the videos so that they flowed nicely together really made all my other adjustments really come together in my head. I was lucky enough to find a song that fit my video perfectly and matched some of the beat drops on important scenes. My narrator was a friend who was really excited to play the role of the motivational speaker. I created the script fairly quickly and I just told him to make a bunch of voice memos and send them to me. It ended up coming to be about 5 voice memos but they would insert on Clipchamps. So I just then decided to screen record the voice memos on my phone and put that video on my google drive to input into Clipchamps. I just then deleted the image of the video and everything was set. I made sure to add the editing effects that our previous projects concerned such as the fading in and out, and the slow motion. A problem I ran into quite a few times while editing was when I would playback the video there would be a stall or a delay. While inserting the music and the sound this delay would affect the time I would drop the sounds in. So it ended up being a back and forth game of me trying to put all the sounds in the correct times. I even switched my computer to my school computer, my brother's computer, and then finally my friend's computer. For some reason on my friend's computer, the lag wasn't there and I was able to see my entire video clearly. It was an easy fix and I ended up adjusting sounds on some specific videos that my narrator was talking in so that he could be heard much clearer. All in all, what I've learned by editing my commercial were fundamental developments that will surely help me in the future and in this class.
