Genre Research: Horror

This genre ppt project was a major determinant in the success of my later projects following. It allowed me to focus on the schemes of a specific genre. After completing this assignment, I easily understood the many factors that go into specific genres. Because I arranged my genre project on horror, I ended up being most familiar with that. I particularly loved this genre, even before beginning this project so, I was quite interested in doing it for such a big project. I knew it was going to keep me intrigued while executing it. Therefore I could at least enjoy the task taking up most of my time at that moment. In my ppt, I covered many things that are included in the overall genre of horror. Such as particular types of camera angles, movements, CLAMPS, and certain elements that inherently play a part in such genre. Some common lighting in the horror genre is uplighting, silhouettes, and prominent shadows. This adds a sense of uncertainty and distortion. Which then causes the image to be obscure which suddenly creates mystery, suspense, and tension. Low angle, close up, and bird's eye shots are all angels that help create the genre's theme. These angles help to add and emphasize the character's power or lack. Zoom and hand-held camera movements are consistent in this genre. They connect the viewer to the character, which helps create dramatic fear amongst the audience. Costumes, makeup, and props are probably most used in this genre. From the dramatically scary makeup of the monster to the infamous costume designs of the villains that creep into your thoughts at night. Moreover, the props that add the finishing touches to the horrifying experience, like their knife, ouija board, or chainsaw. And not to forget the disturbing sounds, dramatic acting, and mortifying settings.
